Our Units of Study
Building a Reading LifeThis unit launches students reading lives as not just 3rd graders, but upper elementary school readers. Students learn to "Build a Reading Life" by making reading resolutions, finding and reading a ton of "just right" books, and learning to read faster, longer, and stronger. In this unit we aim to create habits that create life long readers.

Reading to Learn:
|
Character Studies
This unit focuses on the study of characters. We get to know our characters by studying them deeply . Readers' are encouraged to come up with theories about their character while interpreting their patterns to identify motivations that shape their character.
|
Research Clubs: Elephants, Penguins, and Frogs, Oh My!This unit continues to build on students ability to learn from reading. Students form clubs and work together to research different animals. They apply this to compare and contrast those animals, and eventually apply their knowledge to a real-world project about animals.
|
Mystery: Foundational Skills in DisguiseThis engaging unit is designed to emphasize students foundation skills. Students read several mystery books. They will look at patterns across mysteries and notice how the books they are reading are similar and different from other books within the same genre. They will use skills they have learned in other fiction units.

Studies have shown that good readers read every day, read just right books, and talk about there reading. In readers’ workshop we have a chance to do just that.
The more we read the better reader’s we become.
I strongly encourage you to talk about books with your child. You can ask your child questions like:
